Copy contents of the individual issue markdowns and scrub actions related to issue opening/closing/commenting. These usually appear at the very end of the issue markdown file and say things like "Close this issue and move on to the next one."
Some other references that may be harder to find but should be changed:
In Step 8 Request to add your changes to the canonical repo, delete the last sentence in list item 4, "In your description, make sure to reference this issue by typing #[issue number].". They won't have issues to reference in the static version.
In Step 9 Closing the loop, replace the phrase "Close this issue and move to the next one" with "Before you go on to the next section, your instructor will need to take an action. Ping them to get them to do it (Hey [course instructor], I just finished step 9 where I closed the loop between the main repo and my local copy!), and wait until after they have confirmed things are ready before you move on to the next section."
In Step 10 Get a collaborator's content locally, delete the part about closing the last issue from the first list item so that it just says "First, verify that you did indeed close the loop after merging your PR (see previous section).".
In Step 11 Add two new sections of the story, add "Ping your instructor and let them know that you have arrived at this step. There is something that they need to do." as the new number 1 in the list.
In Step 12 Pull down more new changes from your collaborator, replace the first item in the list with "Do not proceed with this step until your instructor has verified that it's OK to go on! (You pinged them in the last step, remember?)"
In Step 14 Request newest set of changes be merged to the canonical repo, delete the sentence "In your description, make sure to reference this issue by typing #[issue number]." that appears in number 7 in the task list.
In Step 16 Using a gitignore file, delete the phrase "and reference this issue using #[issue number]" which appears in number 8 of the task list.
