Long ago, we had thought we would organize people in Everbridge by department. It turns out this is not useful, and is not being used. Different departments have created their own useful ways to group their staff in order to send out notifications.

Rather than trying to control groups of employees, we should rely on manually created groups. We will create one large COB group that contains all employees. We need this group, since Everbridge is also being used by the county, and we need to keep our employees separate.

The department field is one of several fields that we added to the database, but ended up never using. We should drop all these fields from directory's emergencyContacts table:

  • employeeId
  • employeeNum
  • department
  • workSite
