What problem are you trying to solve?

I would like to make heat map of Buffalo's food deserts.

Who will benefit (directly and indirectly) from your project?

Policy makers, citizens of Buffalo

What other resources/tools are currently serving the same need? How does your project set itself apart?

USDA put out a food desert map here: https://www.ers.usda.gov/data-products/food-access-research-atlas/go-to-the-atlas/

I believe this was using data from the last Census (2010). I would like to make a map with more resolution that also shows the locations of grocery stores, farmers markets, and other places to get fresh, healthy foods.

Where can we find any research/data available/articles?

http://americannutritionassociation.org/newsletter/usda-defines-food-deserts
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food_desert

What help do you need now?

Researching, compiling data on fresh food locations.

What are the next steps (validation, research, coding, design)?

First step would be to research data availability and how to ingest and combine different data sources.

How can we contact you outside of Github(email, social media, etc)?
