I've done all the steps, but when I try to put the server IP address in my switch's primary DNS it say "could not perform DNS resolution". The IP address I put in was my router, and my laptop (which is running the server) and my switch are both connected to that router for internet access. DO any of you have any suggestions for what might have gone wrong? Thanks in advance for the help.

I have the same problem and the steps are apparently all well done

I had the same problem. Looking at the logs I could see lots of 'denied' errors from bind, so I suspect it was not forwarding the requests properly. Unfortunately, I'm not au-fait with bind, so I ended up using the same approach with dnsmasq which is a lot simpler to setup. If you are interested, I am happy to share the details

dnsmasq

Could you please explain how you do it?

Sure, take a quick look at a repo I created with an example in the README
