Hello,

I am attempting to use the code through the GUI and have hit a roadblock with the 'extension factor'.
I have raw HDsEMG in OTB+ files that I open in OT Biolab and export to .mat files. However when I select those .mat files for import into the app I have no idea what extension factor should be selected. Every option for extension factor returns "make sure to specify an extension factor" error window. I am selecting one but that does not help.

Is this something I should be addressing prior to the OTB+-->.mat export? after? or something I should just know from collection setup?

Any help is appreciated!

Hi Ryan, thanks for reaching out.

From what I understand, your matlab file only contains the raw EMG signal. You should instead export the raw EMG signal + the decomposition outcome, which in OTBiolab+ is composed by the firing times (named in the OTBiolab+ software as: decomposition of...) and the decomposed source (named in the OTBiolab+ software as: source for...). In addition to this, you might also want to export the reference signal (named in the OTBiolab+ software as: acquired data). In this case, the extension factor refers to the value of "extension factor" used during the decomposition in the OTBiolab+ software.

If you are only exporting the raw EMG signal, the error message that you receive might be an uncaught exception of the GUI that falls back to a standard error message.

At the moment, we do not have a function to load only the raw EMG signal, as this will be released together with functions to analyse the global EMG signal. At the moment, the library is mainly oriented at the analysis of MUs properties, and we therefore implemented only functions to load the decomposition outcome. Please note that there are also functions specific to load only the reference signal, in case you need to analyse it to get MVC or RFD.

Hello ! I have also have the same problem , I have exported the decomposed + source together as a .mat file and tried to load on the OTB . but it keeps giving the same error , for the extension factor since I have used 8 in the decompni tool , I have used 8 but still getting the same error . it works for the MVC which is the acquired but i keep getting the same problem . I was wondering , can can it be because of the orientation of saving ? or is it related to saved monopolar or differential ?

Hello @ShayanK1996. As previously explained, the error message that you see might not be related to the real problem, as it originates from the type of exception. This type of exception usually originates when the user forgets to insert the extension factor, but in your case, I guess that there are other reasons.

Before we proceed any further, please make sure to export your file following this guide (https://www.giacomovalli.com/openhdemg/tutorials/import_from_other_software/#export-the-decomposition-outcome_1).

If you are still not successful, please note the following:

• You need to export the monopolar EMG signal with ALL the channels. Otherwise, if you export the differential signal (or the monopolar signal without some channels), the number of grid's electrodes and the number of EMG signals will not match.
• You need to export the RAW EMG signal, the "decomposition of" and the "source for decomposition" in the same .mat file without converting the signals when the various pop-up windows appear in the OTB exporting procedure.

What do you mean about "orientation of saving"?

Thanks for reaching out to both of you! As Giacomo mentioned, the error messages in the GUI focus on the solution and do not report the original error message. We will fix this with the next release and you can keep track with the #61 issue I created.
