OpenBoard new 1.4.5 v17

All releases are mostly development versions. They can be used, but may contain confusing or unnecessary settings. Settings may be removed or reset on updates. Consider all releases as beta quality at best.

The main changes intended to be done before a proper release are done, now work on when ready issues can start.
Focus will be on fixing bugs and preparing for a release on F-Droid.

Note that support for Android 4.4 will likely get dropped in the next version, minimum version will be 5.0. Please open a discussion or issue if you are on 4.4 and object to this change.

Changes since v16:

• removed old keyboard parser
  • some previously enabled keyboard might be disabled after the upgrade, just enable them again if that happens
• symbols in key popups are now taken from symbols layout
  • except for a few cases where the row is longer than the corresponding symbols row
  • first row of symbols layout adjusted for consistency (noticeable only if number row is enabled)
• customizable keyboard layouts
  • with a very basic in-app editor that is only suitable for the simple layout style
• customizable popup keys and label (Adjustable popup key priority #314)
  • set in preferences, and override in language settings
• customizable toolbar keys (previously pinned keys are removed on upgrade)
• inline autofill support by @arcarum, with a some more people helping and testing (Inline autofill support #336)
• improved bn_BD popup keys, by @RHJihan (Update bn_bd for the new parser #347)
• increased keyboard height more when number row is enabled
• one-handed mode now applies to emoji and clipboard views, not just keyboard
• split keyboard now also applies to emoji view
• swipe left in clipboard view to remove entry
• clipboard view now has toolbar, and space and delete keys (same as emoji view)
• improvements for rounded style, by @BlackyHawky (Remove bar under clipboard strip #362, Replace icons for rounded style #351)
• minor fixes and improvements (Please add ability to choose color of key text and text on suggestion bar separately #285, Dark/light theme switching not working with scheduled theme switch #298, letter suggestion pop up display strange diacritic suggestions #303, and some more)

No way to change language. Swipe on space wont work. Button wont work. The language is changing in spacebar only, but keyboard itself is always english. I will install v16 for now.

I installed keepassdx to test the new inline autofill functionality, but I'm not really sure how to set it up. Is there anything required in the setup process? Is there some new key on the keyboard I need to select to call keepassdx so it unlocks its database? I'm trying to get it working on https://app.tvtime.com but there is nothing in the suggestion bar.

Edit: I think the issue is that I am using cromite for my web browser which does not integrate with android's autofill service.

Actually, I think the issue is that I am using Android 7.1 and the inline autofill service is not supported at all in Nougat. Doesn't openboard require android.permission.BIND_AUTOFILL_SERVICE in order to use this feature? I now wonder what version of Android the autofill service was introduced.

But this is some more generic autofill that is not connected to a keyboard.
Inline autofill was introduced in 11 (showing passwords as suggestions without the keyboard app getting access to the content).

How do I disable/hide the toolbar? It appeared when I installed v17 over v16 and there's no setting to hide/disable it in the settings...

The toolbar should not be showing automatically when you open the keyboard. What happens if you click the button on the left?

It hides the toolbar buttons but I want the entire underlying bar itself to disappear because it takes up space, similar to how I can remove the suggestions bar. Any way to remove that?

Ah so it's the entire suggestion strip.

This is expected, as commented in #39 (comment), and no one opposed for a long time (issue was already added to the 1.0 milestone at that point).
Changing keyboard heights when when switching to emoji or clipboard view was seen as unwanted (#30, #39).

Really, really thanks! I couldn't find any good open-source keyboard and found openboard but then the project died. Again, thanks for working on the project!

This update makes the keyboard crash on my phone. Even opening the app it cause instant crashes. Right now I'm back at gboard till the new updates come and fix the problem.

It says updating existing
,couldn't install conflicts with existing package.

After removing original everything works.

When selecting language it's not clear that it's possible to tap and select layout within each line.

Everything else seems to work fine. It's getting closer to gBoard's performance.
