It seems we're missing some of the main periods here. For example, shouldn't Cenozoic appear, as described in Fossil Details of this calibration?

@pdpolly, Do we need to show these top-level "system" names (Cenozoic, Mesozoic, Paleozoic) in the multi-level dropdown menu?

yes, it probably would be helpful to most non-specialists.
