Hi folks,
Let me just preface this post with my love for this software. I really love it. However I had to stop using it altogether, because after a long investigation it turned out to be the cause of the random TDR errors I have been getting for a little while on my RTX 4070 Ti.
I knew the issue was a contention issue (many programs attempting to control the card at the same time), so I had a few suspects to investigate. I was running Core Temp to monitor my CPU usage and temps, Afterburner to apply overclock on boot, and FanControl to control all my system fans. I have uninstalled all RGB control software like Aura.
I started by disabling Core Temp, but after a couple of days it happened again.
Then I disabled Afterburner, same thing, couple of days later another TDR error (Unknown Event ID 14).
Then I uninstalled FanControl. Issue didn't occur for a week.
I reactivated Afterburner, same, no issue for a week.
Reactivated Core Temp, same, no issue for another week.
Deactivated both and reactivated FanControl, issue occurred again within a couple of days.
So at this point I am fairly certain the issue is being caused by FanControl, or more likely by a bug or incompatibility in an underlying library. I have been using FanControl for a long time, first on a GTX1660, then on a RTX3070 and never had issues until I upgraded to a 4070 Ti.
Not sure if this is the best place to post this, but seeing as this error has been a major thorn in my back for a while, I figured letting you guys know here would be at least prudent.
Thanks,
Hugo
