Add support for persisting session start and termination

Eric asked if it would be possible to obtain reports which show when users initiate and terminate sessions; ideally, he would like to be able to generate a report which highlights per user for a given time window:

• the amount of sessions they ran
• the mean duration of the sessions

This could be ordered over the set of users.

He is v comfortable with doing this via a SQL interface so if the data is there, he could easily generate the reports for himself.

@olevski mentioned that there is an activity for POD which is intended to capture usage data and that this requirement could somehow relate to that.

It would be good if it was possible to provide some solution for this for the delivery of this module in Spring 2024.
