How to Get Values for Optional Elements

I am trying to analyze additions and deletions from a RepoCommit, but the fields stats and files of this struct are always None in my tests. I tested listing the commits of this repository and a couple of my own. Unfortunately, the GitHub API doc for the "List commits" endpoint (link) does not explain how to get values for these objects (or in what situations a value will be returned). Can someone shed some light on this?
