Should we change the build system?

I don't really know how much of you will reply (or even read this), anyways...

This is my idea

I was thinking to replace the Makefile (which is becoming hard to maintain) with maybe CMake or something else.
What do you think about that? Do you have recommendations other than CMake?

What do I hope to solve

• Compatibility with different system families (bsd, linux, dos, ...)
• Improve
  • Maintainability
  • Readability
