Comparison between Liquibase and Flyway

Approach to Database Migrations:

• Liquibase: • Declarative approach: Developers define database changes using XML, YAML, JSON, or SQL formats in changelog files. • Supports both XML-based and YAML-based changelog formats. • Changes are described in terms of desired state, rather than imperative SQL commands. • Flyway: • Imperative approach: Developers write SQL-based migration scripts that describe how to migrate the database schema from one version to another. • Migrations are tracked by version number, applied sequentially in the order they were created.

Supported Databases:

Liquibase:

• Supports a wide range of databases including MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, H2, SQLite, and more.

Flyway:

• Similar to Liquibase, Flyway also supports various databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, DB2, H2, SQLite, and more.

Flyway:

Learning Curve:

Liquibase:

Flyway:
