Notes on the McWatters Automotive Self-Driving Car Project

Goal

To create aftermarket retrofit hardware and software that meets or exceeds SAE Level 4 per J3016 APR2021.1

Objectives

  1. Source off-the-shelf hardware solutions comparable to the 5th-generation Waymo Driver sensor suite.

Planned features

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane centering
  • Pedestrian and bicycle detection
  • Traffic sign and traffic light detection based on the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices for Streets and Highways2
  • Map-based navigation
