Description
When attempting to scan a specific folder with dupeGuru, I encounter an error message stating: “Selected folders do not contain any valid files”, even though the folder contains valid files (images, documents, etc.). This issue appeared suddenly, after the application had previously worked fine.

Environment

•	dupeGuru Version: 3.4.1
•	Operating System: macOS Sequoia 15.0.1
•	File types being scanned: Images (.jpg, .png)
•	Drive type: Internal and External hard drive

Steps to Reproduce

1.	Open dupeGuru.
2.	Select a folder on an external hard drive that contains valid files.
3.	Start the scan.
4.	The error message appears: “Selected folders do not contain any valid files”.

Expected Behavior
dupeGuru should scan the selected folder and detect duplicate files.

Observed Behavior
The software displays an error message saying that the folder does not contain valid files, despite the presence of readable files in the folder accessible via other applications.

Attempted Solutions

•	Verified disk and folder permissions (dupeGuru has full disk access in macOS settings).
•	Reinstalled dupeGuru.
•	Tested with multiple folders and different file types (images, documents, etc.).
•	Tested on another external hard drive and on the internal drive of the Mac.

Error Logs (if available)
[Attach error logs if applicable]

Additional Information
A subfolder inheritance issue is also notable: when the status of a parent folder is set to “Reference”, “Normal”, or “Excluded”, the subfolders do not inherit this status, requiring manual adjustment of each subfolder. This, combined with the file validity error, may point to a broader issue with folder and file handling in dupeGuru, potentially linked to recent macOS updates or external drive configurations.
