Use with Taskfile

I found another place to use Gum other than just shell scripts. Our development and deployment environments all use Taskfile.dev (also built with Go), and it's quite easy to use Gum together with Taskfile. For example, here is a simple task extracted from a larger file.

  docs.clean-build:
    desc: "Clean first, then re-build the docs"
    cmds:
      - 'gum confirm "Are you sure?"'
      - "rm -r docs/public"
      - task docs.build

I thought this is a very interesting use-case, and a major benefit for us. We can remove some redundant tasks now and replace them with gum interactivity.

I wonder if gum should have some functionality to skip or use default values when it's not running in attached to a TTY (TERM=dumb) so that these files / scripts can be used in CI where there is no user interaction.

That would be an interesting use-case, although we probably won't be using it this way. Our deployment tasks are very explicit in their tasks/commands, and we don't make assumptions.

That said, it could open up new opportunities/capabilities that we haven't considered because we didn't have gum before ;)
