We removed our new side panel option for now. As of a vivaldi bug. (But that shouldnt be forever..)
Please report to @vivaldi asap (forum.vivaldi.net) if you want to keep using extensions in Vivaldi without this issue. (Vivaldi has no github bug tracking.) :

   Defining a sidepanel.html does always or often open it in Vivaldi on any site (should be by click only). Example
   (And the sidepanel permission alone also makes the icon reappear after hiding it.
   (while a side panel might only be automatically opened with sidePanel.open(), if ever )

Thank you for having a sense a humour (and your patience).

My question is who asked for the extension to be added to the side panel in the first place? For me, majority of extension are set and forget, so they should be hidden away in the toolbar, like they are now.

The way Vivaldi's implementation of side panel is the way I want to use the feature. I have Gmail, Google Keep, Inoreader, Google Chat, Google Calendar, Spotify... Websites I want to quickly check multiple times in a day and hide when I no longer need them.

Why should an extension like ImproveTube deserve a spot in my sidebar?

we just wanted to allow a new standard. (That isn't really new):
"Chromium side panel" (the icon in the top right), is not "Vivaldi Sidebar" ( permanently on the left, which the other Browsers don't have. Didn't ask for any spot in Vivaldi )

Classic Browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera have a side pane. For history, bookmarks & extensions. - Eventually Google Chrome made desktop monitors be used rather single-windowed (no side panel) & browsing history 90 days short (not unlimited). Ironically not many years after wide-screens had become the standard (16:10 or 16:9, always providing unused white space on the side unlike 4:3). And in Chrome extensions were allowed to be fleeting only. Set & Forget: Yes, for many features, yet it marginalizes other features: annotations /related content, multitasking. While Chrome won, making companion-features became less and less reasonable for extension developers.

Chrome Side Panel was requested & tested for almost as long as the browser has been developed.
Now that it is there (since ~1 year) simply providing the option makes sense for us already (and didn't hope to wait for Vivaldi for another year, a browser used by less than 1 in 2000 people).

You (users) might not like to click on the fleeting menu repeatedly, but be tired when losing the current state, when clicking outside by mistake. Yet our session-duration is high. More minutes than on most websites. Multi-tools make people think a while and we keep adding features). And we paid the unique effort for several years already, that most features are applied instantly while on YouTube. So you might also want to try a feature immediately by scrolling on YouTube. And then try the next one, without repeating the whole navigation unnecessarily.

We might even finally make a feature or two specifically only possible in a side panel (which might be another extension, or this one),
either way that will be after a 15 year-wait.

I agree with having the option (also, disabling the side bar panel does not worked because of the special circumstances here for now). The best decision in software development is to leave the decision to the user so everyone can devide for himself if he uses a specific function given or not. When I reported I cannot disable it, I simply was not aware of the problems behind this; but in the end more options are better as long as you can chose. IMHO.

@LinguaOccultus yes, didn't enable by default. This is Vivaldi's issue, thus asking you users to report it. (Edit above: "Please report to @vivaldi asap (forum.vivaldi.net) if you want to keep using extensions in Vivaldi without this issue. (Vivaldi has no github bug tracking.)

It is reported already. And they do have a bug tracker; unfortunately it is not public, for whatever stupid reason. Mostly their ambassadors maintain it. Both, ambassadors and the developers, however, read the forums also.

@ALL: you are most likely mentioned here because you reported issues with Vivaldi like myself; let's be happy the developer looks into this. If you are mentioned in error, you can just unfollow the thread yourself.

@Topic: I just left the panel in for now as I did not have any other choice. Extension version is 4.9.41 currently and there is no update available. The setting for the panel is, however, gone for now. I removed the panel and hopefully it will stay away for now until a solution is found.

Generally spoken, I am using the extension for quite some time now (years) and it worked more or less. In the last month' it seemed, that there are more and more function not working, not as intended or even causing issue. But I would have to check them again to make a list here.

One thing which is very annoying, but might be due to how the extension works: when I open a YouTube link and the page is loading, it appears and then it seems it is reloaded 2-3 times again until it is stable and usable. Maybe this is needed to make all the changes to it, but maybe just no one has reported this by now and Vivaldi is not the most used browser also.

I am definitely open to help here as I do support most of the projects I use with suggestions, bug reports, translations, sometimes design and donations; especially freeware/open-source.

Oh ! I think I found something ! The "Hide player controls bar" was on "Always" ! Setting it on "Off" seems to work, the fault was mine.

For the menu, even with the list, the "General" is still hidden but I don't understand why. If I use the extension in a new session, with a blank profile, it displays correctly... I have no idea what can cause this, maybe I will try by disabling other extensions 🤷‍♂️ otherwise it's not a big problem :)

But I found an other one, in the MiniPlayer, the progress bar isn't resized, but I think it's a known issue because it appears on all my browsers :)

Edit : Ok, my bad, I just resolved the Menu issue... I just find in the Settings, Appearance, Hide categores... I don't know when I did this but "General" was ticked, so problem solved

Missing elements, even in extensions, can be due to blockers like those for ads like uBlock Origin and such. Also, some browser settings can cause this on websites and even extensions as they often use web technology and work just like websites; like blocking cookies, website permissions and other permission- and security-based settings. I have some issues myself I try to track down at the moment which also do not appear in safe mode, for example, but do in normal windows even with all extensions disabeld. It is not so easy anymore these days ... ;-)

The most annoying is that the progress bar isn't showing The only way to make it appear is clicking on the miniplayer (i) and come back to the video, but the progress bar will disappear again with no reason.

Your extension menu is crashing = not loading fully. Might be language related, or something in your settings.

thanks @BaptouNW (thats also a bug worth pointing out!. The bubbles should not have been rearranged too statically. As long as the option is there to hide it. Just didn't think of that option, since the menu is not required to look at very often.)

RE: "Mass-ping accusation":

• Vivaldi users are specifically appreciated here, for making independent (and or strong) decisions.
  Both projects are similar. (Neither worked without a little fun or self-irony yet)

• Mentioning 45 or so people specifically is not a lot and not done enough in general, is it? This is barely socially active.
  (45 out of the 1000s or so of people i have cared to answer before /voluntarily).

  • Assuming as much* as 20% people notice and it takes the average person as much as 30s to fully interpret and be satisfied to leave or stay, thats 4.5 minute of this productive (+potentially fun) idea.
  • Many of you are users and on Github only a few times or only because of us. (By usage this is as much a Youtube entertainment project (nerdy modding) as it is a productivity toolbox). Few people are also regular bug reporters or developers of this project or a few other projects and busy. While the average active Github user (about 1 in 400 people in the world), might be interested and has has given only about 10 stars and is tagged only 3 times per year. (so these people might smile but not even click any notification). While among the few busy busy developers actually caring for multiple projects: Most will know how to set up automated email-filters/sorting/labeling to see only what they want (Hopefully for them. And it might be time to make them smile if we get the chance.)

  (*while in comparison email is historically polluted. 350+ billion emails are sent per day, which defined the word spam.)

While our features are used by about 600 000 people and growing quickly. (So that the average commercial web-service, in our place would have collected a lot of email addresses by now and be sending millions of mails / notifications regularly,.)

• One cant really live up to such responsibility, let alone talk to enough people
  • Even just to make 5 Vivaldi users think hard and productively for could mean a lot. - Or If we had to make a trade-off, to forced-uninstall or perma-ban 1000s users, to celebrate Raszpl's motivation today, of course that would be worth it overall.
    • It often is easy to agree in quality over quantity: If i could choose, should[n't] I prefer a project with only a few users? (paradoxically!) if "only that project (unlike our's) could already care for a few 100 hungry people, where food costs several times less.

Two coins; one side is good that there's an attempt to progress fixing issues.. but the other is that it should be done in a better way than mass @'ing people.

To chime in since I didn't last time; I don't use modern versions of web browsers. I do use Vivaldi, but it's an old version a number of years out of date as I can't stand unwanted and pointless UI changes. Vivaldi is, unfortunately, going against their mission statement of being the most customizable power user browser by enforcing changes with no options just like Microsoft does.

My daily driver is Cent 3.0.4 (Chromium 62).. requesting any fixes for a browser that old is pointless. ImprovedTube did stop working on it (dropdown config menu is blank) some time ago. Would be great if Chrome had an option to not force auto-update addons daily, but y'know...

hi! @DAOWAce interesting, i care. blank menu is (was) an known issue in different browsers either with the order of our scripts and / or temporary browser storage rate limiting when already clicking repeatedly.

to prevent updates you can edit the update url of that extensions in its manifest.json
