Not all albums showing?

Hello,

instead of posting another issue, I better ask here first...

So I have installed lms v3.29.1 from source on Arch Linux. I figured out the path issues, installed the service file, and it's running just fine now.

But one problem I have now is:
After scanning my library, when I go to Albums and select All, I only get exactly 198 albums, even though I have many more than that. The missing albums are scanned, and I can find them using the search function, but the All page seems to refuse to show more than 198 entries? The same is true when I choose Random— I get 198 albums.

Shouldn't the infinite scrolling just continue to show more albums until there are non left?

This is a hard-coded limit to prevent the generated web page from being too large and weighing down the client's browser.
Do you really want to see them all? How many albums do you have?

I see. Well, I have over 2000 albums I think, 25 years of collecting, ripping, vinyl recording... :)

I would be OK with a "paging" kind of thing. But right now I cannot just browse any albums beyond the limit... that's not very useful for me. I know I can filter etc., but I often just like to browse through all albums and pick a few here and there for my playlist.

Since I am installing from source anyway... could I just change the limit, reinstall, and test how the browser copes with a larger limit?

You can try to replace 32 by whatever you want and see what happens indeed

OK, I set the _maxitemsPerLine value to an inconvenient 300 :)
Reinstalled everything, scanned the library and browsed all the way to Zoot Suit Roit. It sure takes a while to scroll to the bottom, but once all the images are loaded, it worked quite well. I didn't notice any bogging down from Firefox. Although I am sure this is also hardware dependent...

Clicking on an album and going back also scrolls to the right position --- great.

I think the end user should at least be made aware of the fact that there is a limit... maybe even make it configurable in the settings. It was a bit confusing to me that there was an "invisible" limit.

Ok will think about making this configurable or even really infinite. Not sure how other servers handle this? (I created an issue from this discussion)

I have seen both, infinite lists and paging, although most HTML interfaces seem to use paging—I assume it's a bit resource hungry to display huge lists in HTML. On the desktop client Sonicx you can configure it to be either paging or infinite. Cantata (MPD client) show albums in an infinite list.

Again, I think it's a bit of a limitation of the browser. Dedicated applications can implement some permanent caching to speed things up...

And thinking about it, what I am used to is scrolling through a huge list of albums, and picking what I feel like at the moment... I can basically do the same thing by repeatedly clicking the Random button on lms.

I don't know... maybe have a vote for it :) Making it configurable will however please both camps.

The other advantage of paging is that you can easily go to the last page just like your example showed, infinite has that issue
