Paper MC & CurseForge: How to download bukkit plugins w/ auto updates?

I've tried different variations of:

And I can't get the grief-prevention (or any other plugin) downloaded to the server. It errors with:

mc-1  | [mc-image-helper] 09:11:31.570 ERROR : Invalid parameter provided for 'curseforge-files' command: Unable to find match in latest files for https://www.curseforge.com/minecraft/bukkit-plugins/grief-prevention

Maybe it's because the plugin is for 1.21, and I'm on 1.21.3? That feels like a stretch though, and I can't find the mc-image-helper script anywhere to check. I really don't want to hard-code a file either, if it's possible. I have auto-backups, so I'm okay with risking auto-updates in the name of less maintenance.

I've also tried the Modrinth path, but it isn't able to find the sleep datapack with:

      afk-announcer
      griefprevention

I'm guessing because it's a datapack? But I'd like CursedForge more if it's an option anyways, they have a lot more options for plugins.

I also tried Spigot with SPIGET_RESOURCES: 68139,1884 for SinglePlayerSleep and GriefPrevention respectively, but 1884 GriefPrevention takes you to a external site, so the download fails.

Those were the three main options I saw in the docs here. Anyone have an idea what I might be missing? Thank you for your time!

Your theory is correct. That plugin is only available for 1.21 and latest Paper is 1.21.1. Set VERSION to be compatible.

That got past that error, thank you! CursedForge is being weird. Filtering by versions, they only have 1.21 for ALL plugins, no 1.21.1. Like looking at GriefPrevention:

If you look at the same exact plugin on the other two sites though, and they're listed as 1.21.0-1, with the same plugin version and about the same release date:

OHHH, I bet CurseForge is only tracking Bukkit, and the other two take paper into account then? Bukkit's latest is just 1.21. If I want to stay on CurseForge, I think the best way forward is to install ViaVersion and ViaBackwards then, to let 1.21.3 clients connect. At first I was worried how long it's taking 1.21.1-3 plugins to come out, but this should sidestep that. Plus everyone was able to release to the original 1.21 very quickly it looks like.

This is the first time I've tried something like this. Does that seem accurate?

There never was a 1.21.0 even for Vanilla. They always leave off the ".0" for first major release which was just "1.21".

I prefer Modrinth much more than CurseForge, so I'd say go with that as much as possible.

Right, it just feels weird writing 1.21-.1, but I guess it's more accurate.

I was just able to work through the last of the errors for using Modrinth. (Turns out the projects have to be lower-case too). The only downside is they don't have any singlePlayerSleep mod that's above 1.21, so I'd be in a similar spot as CursedForge. But I see pros/cons to both, so I have something to poke at now.
