Alternative appears to be the Custom Search API, which shows up in the Google Developers dashboard thingy, so I'm guessing it'll require credentials. If it does, you may/may not be able to use the same ones as for the Youtube script. They're likely to be API-specific, though, so it might need new keys generated.
Seem to recall seeing a 'filetype' parameter (or similar) which could be used to make it return images. Haven't seen any solid examples pointing specifically to image searches though.

Image search API seems to be discontinued, after being deprecated since 2011.
