crashing with null error on Boston Common cartridge

What cartridge are you playing?
The boston common treasure 1.7 associated with geocache gc3mtpk

What is your phone/PDA manufacturer and model? What GPS are you using?
Phone is a galaxy s5 From samsung. GPS is integrated in phone.

What steps will reproduce the problem?
1. Start cartridge. 
2. Do the 3 excavation stages. 
3. Return to parking.
4. Do all task to that point.
5. Save cartridge. 
6. Do other stuff for a while. 
7. switch to whereugo. 
8. Read error message.

Also 
restart whereugo
load saved game. 
Then visit excavation 4. 



What is the expected output? What happens instead? A dialog telling me to dig 
elsewhere. I got an error screen instead.
