Initial amount calculation in account

There is something I don't quite understand, because when I go to create an account it asks me to enter an initial amount, shouldn't this be calculated based on the transactions that are in the account?

I don't fully understand why the amount has to be entered and how it behaves when transactions are added to the account, whether it increases or decreases.

Do you have any documentation that better explains how the calculation of the account amount works?

The initial amount is optional on account creation and simply allows you to specify a starting amount for your account by date for scenarios where you may not have all of the transactions available to you.

If you choose to leave this blank, we will calculate the historical balance based on the current balance (today's balance) that you provide and the sum total of all the transactions entered for the account.
