Request For A GUI

From the description and broad range of supported sites, I can say that this app is a gem. But for inexperienced users who don't know how to use CLI apps, we are missing out on a great app, to be honest. Not sure if anyone has requested a GUI before, but I am requesting one. Would be really dope if you could make a GUI for this. 🙂

That's gonna be very hard to implement cuz last I checked there are barely any Python 3.6+ (or at least 3.8+) GUI creation toolkits, and those that exist are either way too hard or low-functionality to use.

And it has to be cross-platform or even platform-agnostic.

There are Python bindings for QT and GTK, and Python has a module in its stdlib to interface with Tcl/Tk: tkinter

Non of them are what I would consider "too hard" or "low-functionality", but I still have no interest in writing a GUI myself.

Yea...no. A GUI makes it easier to create and monitor tasks, especially longer ones...you won't find a single enterprise or commercial tool that is command line only, because being able to glance at something or tick a checkbox will always beat a block or ill-formatted text and archaic commands and flag options.

See: Hydrus, namely the subscription function, that automates checking for new files with an automated metering function that can be tuned using...buttons. Also try tagging thousands of files using the command line...

docker (the non-Windows one), Jenkins, borg, Vagrant, Puppeteer.
And lots others.
Git even.

I fail to see how a GUI makes it easier to create and monitor.
CLI is IMO less error-prone (due to the scriptability of it), and monitoring can be done through a log file which you can open in the editor you're most comfortable with.

Isn't that a file manager?
I remember looking at it in the past when searching for tagging tools, but ending up not using it because it relied on a separate database for everything which is iffy when it comes to files.
In any case, a file manager of course benefits from a GUI, but I don't think that's comparable to an automation tool.

Hydrus both manages the files and provides downloading features. The download system is controlled entirely via GUI, even the creation of new downloaders for sites is done on a GUI (which makes it simpler, but way less powerful than gallery-dl). There is also an unofficial, alternative downloader system for it, based on gallery-dl (https://github.com/thatfuckingbird/hydownloader), with a GUI (https://github.com/thatfuckingbird/hydownloader-systray). This can be used even without Hydrus, as a management layer + GUI on top of gallery-dl that provides Hydrus-like downloading features, but it is aimed at powerusers and requires time investment and some technical knowledge to set up (by design).
