The last commit was 16 months ago. Is it worth it to invest in this project? Is there a successor you recommend?

This repository is maintained today on a volunteer basis, as there are not currently any organizations sponsoring ongoing work. That said, for the most part it still works reasonably well, has a decent feature set, and is predictable. It's up to you whether this is enough for you to use it.
