What's new in Node.js 2024

Opening this issue in support of Sharing project news

TLDR;

The project aims to make it easy to share project news with those who publish newsletters that cover Node.js.

The next-10 team will be reaching out to periodicals like Node.js weekly to point them at this issue and other issues created by teams across the project.

This issue is to share project news related to Node.js core

We trust/expect collaborators to post project related news versus news that promotes a specific company or commercial interest.

@nodejs/collaborators wanted to give everybody an FYI that we've recently reached out to a number of the publications on the list mentioned in nodejs/next-10#110 (comment) and now and going forward is a good time to start sharing project news in this discussion thread.

Delivering news from the Node.js project POV seems to be a perennial issue. Folks like Michael have made efforts to improve this, but it doesn't fit into anyone's workflow enough to really stick. It reminds me of when you have a question at work, CC several people in, and no-one replies because they assume someone else was going to. :) (No judgment, BTW. This stuff is hard! And maybe there's a lot going on that I am unaware of.)

This may not be the place for such a discussion, but does/could the Node.js project have one individual on the inside to handle outreach/press/public representation? I've seen the ambassador program, which might well be intended to cover this(?), but I worry that spreading the role across multiple people could have a similar diluting effect.

The topic of the Node project sharing its news and internal happenings has come up numerous times over the years.

I certainly agree that it comes up over and over. I might have the opposite problem you do: I'm so on the inside and so close up on things (or at least I used to be), that I might assume everyone knows X when in fact it's just me and some other maintainers. I can't exclude that possibility, but I certainly don't see what the issue is. I'd love for somebody to provide an example. Perhaps I shouldn't have directed the question to you but instead asked more broadly.

I agree that trying to use this issue in the core repo did not work out. Closing and will remove from the list of issues that news is being posted to.
