Hey everyone,
As you may have noticed in #73, people misunderstood that Vignette itself is completely "open source": and that sometimes apply to the dependency level. However there are a few misconceptions.
When we meant "Open Source from the very core" - we meant within this project only
While we do use osu!framework for our foundation, which uses BASS lib, and Live2D's SDKs, the project remains relatively open source in a sense our project is on a OSI-approved license, and that's usually understood that our statement is delimited to our own project. Live2D and BASS isn't our concern, and we are allowed to use proprietary APIs until in the near future we can replace them with a FOSS solution.
Third Party != First Party
Another misconception with us is that when we use a proprietary third party API, that automatically nullifies the "Open Source" statement. That is false. We would like to express that this is no different from Linux kernel and it's third party maintained drivers. While the third party may license it whenever they please to any license, this project will remain FOSS.
Conclusion
With that in mind I would like to hear everyone's thoughts about this. However, as we see fit, this is no different to Linux and Chromium, so our stance does not change.
