Inspired by interactivity ✨

while preparing our nim(ib) conf presentation, @HugoGranstrom asked me if I had suggestions for the "Why interactivity?" section. I do not remember giving him memorable advice, but I do feel there are a lot of gorgeous interactivity examples out there to get inspired from, so this thread is my way of sharing some, so that you can share yours.

• Observable is probably the best know notebook which has from the start always had a lot of interactive examples (being native js).
• Idyll is lesser know but really focused on interactivity (see also idyll like api #121). examples:
  • Math of card shuffling
  • more examples
• explorable explanations has actually a list of tools where observable and idyll are top two entries
• processing is probably the grandfather of those, but still active and kicking (see p5.js, I did an article on nblog with that)
• distill.pub has been an attempt to have a scientific journal with the possibility of adding interactivity (discovered today, note that there is a still valid distill template and we could build a nimib theme for that). example:
  • A visual exploration of Gaussian processes
• then there are libraries like shiny (originally R but now also Python) or streamlit, but those are more specifically for dashboard and they require a server.

other than systems or organizations, a lot of great interactivity is produced by individuals:

• Nicky Case is probably the best in the league (hey, I did not realize that explorable explanations above is from Nicky!). examples:
  • the evolution of trust
  • what happens next? (I did help with Italian translation of this one)
• Ciechanowski was on HN some days ago and it is crazy good!
  • mechanical watch
  • earth and sun

so these are on the top of my head some inspirations for interactivity that could drive nimib work, what are yours?
