Tasks

  1. Add missing /work items, starting with items listed below
  2. Consider creating new sections to indicate the level of our leadership, effort/contribution more accurately to those just skimming the page (e.g. we wouldn't put "Documenting the Now" in our projects the way currently displayed, but that work should be there). See # New Sections below for details.

Items to add to /work page (currently missing)

  • Christian McMillen, Professor of History; (2017-current, but 2022-current as IATH Fellow)
    • Drew and Chris: initially worked with Christian in 2017, helping with their Diplomacy Lab project looking at HIV/HIV research in Russia; then August 2022 teaching StoryMaps in his Engagements course, and around that time started discussing fellowship topics of mapping reservations and tribal lands
  • Tessa Farmer, Anthropology/Global Studies; 2024-current
    • (ask who; Will, Arin, Drew, Jeremy, ?)
  • Team of Ryan Huish (Natural Science department at UVA Wise) and Lise Dobrin (Linguistics here at UVA); 2024-current
    • (ask who; Will, Arin, Drew, Jeremy, ?)
  • Andrea Roberts (May 2022 initial intro and migration work-?)
    • Mellon grant (Drew, Chris; Ronda and Jeremy consult; Will Spring 2025 stand-in with Rosenwald School)
    • Freedom Colonies site migrations
  • Ask staff if other IATH Fellowships we've done more than 1 consult on (in case we should make an IATH Fellowship section)
  • Documenting the Now (Mellon Doc Now 2 grant)
  • LAMI (Mellon)
  • PhD+
  • items from Amanda's projects Outlook folder
  • Will's 2024 work on his pre-SLab Absalom project w/Railton (10/7/2024 Will email "Digital Absalom!" has text)
  • Jeremy Accessible Futures instructor collab, if at SLab?
  • JUEL (WIll & Arin working with Louis Nelson on this in 2024)
  • Absalom, Absalom (Will worked on in DML days; now helping IATH get files for their incorp into Digital Yok.)
  • CodeLab
  • DesignLab
  • https://virtualexhibition.v21artspace.com/dub-leffler-darkish and ask for other digital exhibits

Other items we could list, that might need new sections grouping them

  • past student conference posters
  • Clean up existing publications GDoc, the export as CSV and pull into work page (like CV CSV)
  • things from grants tracker Gsheet
  • R&D projects not yet listed, e.g. from Confluence logs/docs. See SLab Confluence > R&D > R&D of the Future for list.
  • GIS LibGuides & other OER/resources
  • https://wordpress.its.virginia.edu/Cultural_Heritage_Data/info-web3d-demos/ and other pages on that site
  • Slides like: https://labs.jstor.org/presentations/
  • anything that has a SLab org GH repo, including archived repos
  • Papers like the CLIR report Will authored a chapter in
  • event series (GIS Day, Feminist DH Symposium)
  • major teaching? (Will's class, Brandon and Jeremy and Alison classes, Lisa Reilly classes...)

New sections

I'd like to add work we've contributed to, such as the current IATH Fellowships. If we could get the language right, we could possibly even add credit-sensitive collaborations with community members (would want discussion/approval from involved staff first, a section title making community ownership and lead clear, text clearly communicating the scope of our contributions).

Right now, we've got "projects" and "student projects" sections, followed by text lists of "Our collaborators at UVA" (mostly departments, units) and "External fieldwork sites".

What if we change to something like:

  1. Scholars' Lab [-initiated? -led?] work
  2. Consultative collaborations
  3. Student-led projects
  4. Other scholarly activities:
  • Our collaborators at UVA (mostly departments, units)
  • External fieldwork sites (some of these refer to work that could go also—or instead—under "Consultative Collaborations"
  • Service activity (e.g. Will's Preservation Piedmont, Brandon's JITP)

"Consultative collaborations" could copy /people's column design, using the project title + project's external lead (i.e. who we're consulting for) to keep emphasis on their lead of a project, with a linked project page containing more info including the shape of our contribution vs. the overall project.

@amandavisconti amandavisconti changed the title /work project labels, to allow adding more kinds of our collaborations? Update /work section labels, to add more work properly citing project leads? Aug 28, 2024
