[Bug Report] Crash when updating feeds

Hi. So i update my feeds manually. And if i do so and there are a lot of new messages to load,

• the app lags
• then it crashes
• and then i have a lot (!) email drafts

It seems that this app has a serious issue with memory. I never developed for android and in Java/Kotlin, so i can't easily look up the code, but there should be some kind of garbage cleanup in the process?!

Can you please give us an option to disable the email draft spam?

The email draft is not spam. It is how you should report crashes. Please send the email.

Memory issues are difficult to diagnose because they depend on your specific phone and what settings you are using.

If it would be one email i would not argue, but it's a lot of them at once. All with the same content. I sent one of them.

The device is a Google Pixel 5 using Android 14. The options (i think are relevant) are:

• only manual update
• 50 per feed
• no device sync
• show preview images
• don't load full articles

Right now without feeder doing anything i have 4gb of memory left. A lot needs to happen to exceed that.

Strange. Mine is only at 18MB average. And I have a ton of feeds.

500MB is a lot, but should not be enough to crash your phone. Unless something else is taking up all the memory (and that's the real problem)

Well right now there is enough memory left. OC i can't tell how the situation is when the crash occurs. But that crash only affects the Feeder app. Everything else is still running fine.

According to this, " Android sets a hard limit on the heap size allotted for each app ". I have a feeling that this might be 512mb?

Not happened again since month now. I would consider this fixed somehow.

Cool.

I changed how feeds are parsed. This was always high on my suspects for memory leaks.
