My name is Candid, I'm a self-taught software developer located in Berlin, Germany and have been a fan of free and open source software ever since I got involved with computers for the first time.

In my twenties I travelled a lot and visited more than 40 countries in Europe by bicycle. Out of the need to navigate on the way before smartphones were a thing, I got interested in the OpenStreetMap community. I started contributing in 2008 by mapping the villages in my area from scratch, back when the map mostly only contained main roads. In 2009 I started creating FacilMap out of my own wish for an alternative to Google Maps (back then the OpenStreetMap website couldn’t even calculate routes yet), and later out of the necessity to collectively plan long bicycle tours across Europe.

Over the years I have created a few tools around the OpenStreetMap ecosystem:

• FacilMap, a collaborative online map.
• Leaflet.DraggableLines, a Leaflet plugin to drag lines/routes.
• Leaflet.HighlightableLayers, a Leaflet plugin to highlight lines/routes.
• Leaflet.AutoGraticule, a Leaflet plugin that renders a graticule.
• Leaflet.FreieTonne, a Leaflet plugin to show nautical features.
• OSM Relation Manager and History Viewer, tools to analyze and visualize relations and changesets in the OSM database.

I have also created the following other open source software:

• json-stream-es, a TypeScript library to stringify/parse JSON streams.
• beatbox.js and RoR Player, a TypeScript library and web application to compose, play and export drumming rhythms in the browser.

I have created all of these in my free time, and I’m paying for the infrastructure to host them with my personal money.
