I finally got around to testing TrueCrypt on an M1 macbook. TrueCrypt itself seems to work great via Rosetta, but installing osxfuse (or macFUSE as it is now called) is much more complicated. On M1 you now have to boot into recovery mode and opt in to reduced security to allow non-Apple kernel extensions to run. The macFUSE installer will direct you to the Security & Privacy settings: Clicking Enable system extensions... will show the following: If you still want to continue then click on Shutdown. Wait a little while for your computer to fully shut down. Then hold the power button until the screen turns on and the text changes to indicate that it is going to load up the recovery mode. After clicking a bit, you will eventually find Startup Security Utility. Check Reduced Security and then also check Allow user management of kernel extensions from identified developers. Click OK and reboot your computer. Once you've booted up the computer again, head to Security & Privacy again. This time when you click Enable system extensions..., a different dialog will show up: Click Restart and reboot one final time. Now macFUSE should be successfully installed and you can proceed with installing TrueCrypt. If you open the macFUSE setting page you should see the following: |

If you have any issues installing TrueCrypt, you can ask for help in this issue. If you have a specific problem unrelated to installation, then please open a new issue!
I am including some basic help in this first post.
First of all, make sure that you successfully installed macFUSE! (see the post below for help on this)
To install TrueCrypt, download
TrueCrypt.app.zip
from the latest release. Double-click the zip file to extract it, then dragTrueCrypt.app
to your Applications directory. The first time you try to run it, macOS will stop it from running and display this warning (the irony is real):
Click
OK
to close the warning. Open System Preferences:Navigate to Security & Privacy. In the General tab you should see the following:
Click
Open Anyway
. You should now get the final prompt:Click
Open
. That should be the last time it warns you, probably until you update the app.If you have any other issues installing, please ask in this issue. If you have a specific problem unrelated to installation, then please open a new issue!
