For what the mounted docker.sock is used for in the Memphis container?

I was wondering for what purpose the Docker socket is mounted into the Memphis container?

As I was skeptical about whether it is needed and because doing so reduces security, I removed the corresponding line from the Compose file, and everything seems to be working fine (at least for now), except that the container log contains a warning GetMainOverviewData: Cannot connect to the Docker daemon at unix:///var/run/docker.sock. Is the docker daemon running?, from what I gather that the Docker socket is used to retrieve and display some information about Docker.
