load functions not firing when using default locale with advanced router example

I have stumbled on a problem. When using this library with a default locale as shown in the advanced router example the load functions in +page.server.js files do not fire on navigation while the current locale is the default one. If the current locale is different from the default one everything works as expected. Seems like the handle hook messes them up when redirecting. I couldn't find a solution to this problem, so if someone already found a fix to this issue please share a solution.
