Having issues getting the latest build to do anything on a 2021 MacBook Pro M1.

Seems to just hang on 'Writing Files' - no progress is made.

for me, it is stuck on writing files. I have already tried writing and it is not working. I am on macOS 13.0.1 (Ventura)

You should probably raise this as a new issue to get the Dev's full attention.

It works for me on Ventura, it just takes a very very very long time. Last time I ran it (early Jan) on a 400GB card I had to leave it going overnight...

Sorry, I do not have a Ventura machine available the next two to three months :( Currently I got projects of two coworkers assigned and thus am busy for three. I have an eye on it, but not in near future.

Note: 400Gb will take a lot of time depending also a lot on the bus speed.

It's my experience that it hangs in the way you describe on drives > 32GB, but works (on M1) for drives of 64GB. Can you confirm the size of your Kingston?

It can be hard to identify the key failing variable in such things. I've tried using Disk Utility to make a 64GB card into an HTFS volume and filesystem and found no joy. 32's are always fine. I think that something about FAT32 just runs out of gas at 32GB, but I haven't confirmed that.
