Settings and library

I'm writing a library which uses apischema. While implementing I've figured out that some issues may arise if the user of the library uses apischema too and makes some changes to the default settings. I wonder what's the best practice here: I guess, library devs shouldn't change any of the settings, on the other hand, considering the settings keep the default values sounds unreasonable and it may change the behaviour of the library code with unwanted consequences.
