Setting up Google Analytics
The short version of the process is:
- make sure you have a Google Analytics Account. You can set this up at analytics.google.com
- you need to create a new property for the roadmap website using the URL of the website
- you need a view. Initially, it's best to create a view which captures all data.
- you need to add the tracker code to roadmap.
You may already have a Google Analytics account for your organization or, if not, you'll need to set one up.
Next you need to create the property and view. There are two important points to note here: one is to make sure you get the correct URL (is it the main site, or a test site or ....). If that doesn't match you'll get nothing back. So it's something to check. Secondly, when you set up the property you will get a tracker code which looks something like UA-12345678-99
but may have a different number of digits. Take a note of that as you'll need to put that into roadmap. Short instructions for this part can be found at:
https://support.google.com/analytics/answer/1008015?hl=en
and slightly more detailed at:
https://analytics.google.com/analytics/academy/course/6
There is a lot you can do with Google Analytics but we would strongly suggest you start with a view that captures all data until you get that working and then you can experiment with all the available features.
Finally, you need to log in to roadmap, go to your org page and towards the bottom you will find a box for entering the tracker code. Add the code you got when you created the property (e.g. UA-123456-7
) and click "Save" and that's it.
You should now be able to see usage reports of roadmap for your organization.
