PCC Standing Committee on Application is responsible for the ongoing maintenance of this mapping file. The regular cycle of update is annual and scheduled around March/April. After the committee completes its annual update work, it will send an announcement to the PCC Listserv. Examples of language family classifications that are currently the subject of ongoing debate among linguists include the cases of the Songhay family (dsq, twq, ddn, hmb, khq, ses, tst, dje--Nilo-Saharan or an independent family?[1]), the 19 Dogon languages (Niger-Congo family probably, but Mande, Gur, or independent branch?[2]) and Kiwaian (Trans-New Guinean, or primary language family?[3])
