Welcome to the EliteBionicsFramework wiki!

Elite Bionics Framework ("EBF") is a "framework mod" of RimWorld (the same kind of mod as Harmony and HugsLib, does nothing on its own, but allows other mods to do something more conveniently) that deals with body parts and their max HP. It allows XML mod-makers to create Hediffs that influence the max HP of body parts without needing prior C# knowledge, while also providing C# mod-makers a unified platform to influence body part max HP in interesting and creative ways.

The EBF project was originally part of the never-released Elite Bionics mod ("ELTE"), which was hoped to compete against the two mainstream bionics mods at that time: EPOE and RBSE. (It was still A17/B18 at that time.) The original idea of ELTE was that, while ELTE bionics did not necessarily provide higher efficiency bonus compared to the vanilla, EPOE, and RBSE bionics, ELTE bionics would be more durable and last longer in general when installed, giving them a significant edge over EPOE and RBSE bionics during combat. (For the reasoning behind this, see various online discussion on "why bionics make pawns weaker", e.g., https://ludeon.com/forums/index.php?topic=15704.0)

"The option of giving bionics to pawns without requiring expensive marine armors to make up for the bionic-induced weakness should be a good enough selling point to users," thought the Author.

The coding part of ELTE was completed with some effort, but the graphics, buildings and recipes part of ELTE was never successfully finished, because the Author did not have the necessary artistic skill and balancing experience, nor did he knew of anyone who could draw for him. It dragged on long and long, and ELTE never saw the light of the day.

Eventually, the Author decided to drop ELTE, but found it too wasteful to also drop the coding part of ELTE together with the graphics and buildings part, because much effort was already invested in it trying to make the coding part compatible with the vanilla game. Later, the Author settled to drop only the graphics and buildings part, and reform the coding part to become the EBF project that we know of today.

Some time later, the Author released the Elite Archotech mod to demonstrate how XML mod-makers may utilize the EBF, and as a remedy to the unfulfilled wish of the Author himself of not able to release ELTE.

The lack of efficiency of the Elite Bionics is made up by the sheer overflowing strength and persistence emanating from the enigmatic Elite Bionics Power Core, holding the piece of technological marvel together even when exposed in the most hostile conditions possible.
