Surf

Surf is a GNOME Shell extension to browse the web directly from GNOME Shell.

Installation

Install Surf from the GNOME Shell Extensions website or by cloning the repository.

$ cd ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
$ git clone https://github.com/diegonz/gnome-shell-extension-surf.git surf@diegonz.github.io

Usage

Open GNOME Shell activities view (pressing Meta key or clicking Activities in top left corner), type a trigger char or keyword :, > and then type an URL or some terms you want to search online.

Examples:

:extensions.gnome.org
>gnome shell extension
: weather

Preferences

Trigger chars and keywords and search URL can be modified from extension preferences window. If you change the icon you must restart GNOME Shell to make the change effective (Log out or Alt+F2 then run r command).
