Steps to reproduce

Install the app on macOS (M1 chip) from the App Store. Log into the server.

Outcome

What happened instead?

After successful log on, I get the "unread badge" on the icon even when there are no unread messages.
The regular Element app does not show any unread messages either.
I am not sure how to debug to give more information.
