The Two Sigma 8x8 Blinky is an Arduino-compatible wearable electronics platform manufactured for Two Sigma Investments by Blinkinlabs. The 8x8 Blinky is equipped with a WiFi-enabled microcontroller platform (Espressif ESP8266) and may be used for connected device applications.
- Install a recent release of the Arduino IDE (version 1.6.8 or newer) from Arduino.cc.
- Launch the Arduino IDE, then access the application's Preferences panel,
- Paste the board URL,
http://arduino.esp8266.com/stable/package_esp8266com_index.json
into the "Additional Boards Manager URLs" field. - Install the ESP8266 board support, via Tools > Board Manager, search for "ESP8266" and select "Install". This is the last step.
- Within the Arduino IDE, open "MegaDemo.ino" from the "MegaDemo" folder.
- To Upload the demo to the 8x8 Blinky, first select "Generic ESP8266 Module" from Tools > Boards,
- Change the following items under the Tools menu as follows (unlisted items should remain unchanged):
- Flash Mode: QIO
- Flash Size: 2M (1M SPIFFS)
- Reset Method: nodemcu
- Upload Speed: 460800 (Use 215600 on Microsoft Windows systems.)
- Port: varies, typically "/dev/cu.usbmodem1411" on Mac, or "COM#" on Microsoft Windows.
- Invoke the "Upload" function under the Sketch menu.
