Project Announcement

Starting in Ubuntu MATE 22.04 LTS, Ambiant-MATE and Radiant-MATE is no longer included. The theme hasn't been touched in 2 years, and the team announced its deprecation some time ago. This is understandable, being a LTS (the old theme didn't even support cutting edge programs built on GTK 4!)

Yaru now supports accent colours, and the Ubuntu MATE team will ship and take responsibility for the colour variants as well. Yaru-MATE is now integrated closer with Yaru compared to previous releases supported by this project (21.04, 21.10). As a result, Yaru-MATE has been dropped from this project.

This project will focus entirely on recolouring Ambiant-MATE and Radiant-MATE, instead of Ubuntu MATE in general. If you enjoyed the wallpapers or Plank theme, you can still obtain them from an old release copy (18.8 MB) for your 22.04 desktop.

Where did Ambiant-MATE & Radiant-MATE go?

ubuntu-mate-artwork removed the old themes, but they have a new home:

https://github.com/lah7/Ambiant-MATE

While the theme continues to work, it isn't actively receiving bug fixes or improvements. Pull requests are certainly welcome.

Users upgrading to 22.04

Because Yaru-MATE and its colours are now shipped together, Ubuntu MATE Welcome opens the Appearance window instead. The colour selection screen will continue to work for users running Ubuntu MATE 18.04 to 21.10, although there will be no more updates.

To continue using Ambiant MATE and/or the colours, switch to the new PPA:

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:lah7/ambiant-mate
sudo apt install ambiant-mate-gtk-themes ambiant-mate-icon-themes
sudo apt install ambiant-mate-colours-aqua

Or, if you prefer, download a copy of the themes and keep them in your home directory (note that they'd be no updates going this route)

What's New?

Since the last release:

  • The script is less strict about hex value parameters.
  • Alternating treeview row colours CSS is included for gtk3-classic users.
