Where to Find Images

(especially royalty free ones)

Read up on what Creative Commons licenses mean and don't mean. Did you find a photo on the internet that you're interested in using? Find out who took it. Just because a photo isn't licensed for reuse, that doesn't mean you can't ask.

Clipart and Vector Graphics

I have a long list of open and/or royalty free clipart on my Pinboard account.

Stay Organized

Figure out your system and stick to it, but make sure that you have adequate metadata for your images, that you know who to credit and what the terms of reuse are.

I use ExifTool to add comments and credit directly to each image's metadata. Example:

exiftool -Credit="Ricardo Nelson ricardonelson.com/" -Comment="Original URL: https://www.flickr.com/photos/abcnoriogala2011/5748079010/" Dropbox/Photos/Myself/no_rio_gala.jpg

Once I run that command, if I run exiftool Dropbox/Photos/Myself/no_rio_gala.jpg I can see that my comment and credit are included in the photo's metadata. If you're not a fan of the command line, keep a text file with the information you need in it.
