Transport Toolbars
OOM Transport and Toolbars are fairly typical of Daw based transport functions with some unique OOM functions.
This section contains the following sections:
- Transport Bar
- Editor Toolbar
- Transport Toolbar
- Extra Functions
The Transport Bar can be opened from the Views menu in the Composer, or with the toggle shortcut F11 .
The layout is as follows:
On the left of the transport bar are two dropdown menus, Rec Mode, and Cycle Rec.
Rec Mode has two options, Overdub, and Replace.
Cycle Rec has three options, Normal, Mix, and Replace.
Next to those menus is a vertical toolbar, showing the Loop, Punch In and Punch Out icons.
And next to the icon bar are two value boxes, showing the timeline position of the Punch In and Out Indicators. (Left mark and Right Mark)
In the center top of the Transport Bar are 2 more value boxes, with the left showing the current Bar position of the playback cursor, and the right showing the elapsed project time for the PB current position. The user can increase or decrease the current PB position by changing these values.
Below that is a slider, with an indicator showing an approximation of the PB current position. The user can use the slider to quickly navigate elsewhere in the project.
Below that again is the transport toolbar icon set. See further down this page for transport toolbar icon definitions
To the right of the transport toolbar are three words, AC, Sync, and Jack.
AC is a toggle on/off to apply quantize during recording.
Sync is a toggle on/off for external sync.
Jack is a toggle on/off for Jack Sync on/off.
On the right of the Transport Bar are the Tempo and Time Signature settings for the current PB position. Note you can change these values, not only in the visible value box for tempo by entering a new value, but the time signature too, by simply hovering the mouse over the value you want to change, and scrolling the mouse button up and down.
Last is the word Tempo, which is a toggle on/off for the Tempo settings in the Tempo Editor. If you've written, for example, extensive tempo changes in the Tempo Editor, you can temporarily disable the changes. This is useful for recording live, where a steady tempo is more likely to produce a good take, than one that varies.
The Editor Toolbar contains the essential tools for working and editing in the Composer, and the Performer.
This is the pointer tool, which is the default tool state. The shortcut is A
The pencil tool enables the pencil tool, which is used for various functions. The shortcut is D
The Eraser tool is used to remove events and parts. The shortcut is B
The Splitter or Cutter tool is used for splitting selected parts. Position the icon where you want to split the part.
The Glue tool is used to glue parts together. Select a part, and click on it with the Glue tool to glue the existing part, and the next part to the right. The two parts will come together as one part.
The Mute tool is used to mute a selected part, or parts, in one track, or across multiple tracks. Select the parts you wish to mute, and press the tool on one of the highlighted parts.
The Automation tool is used to activate or deactivate Automation Editing for Audio type tracks.
The transport icons are:
Loop This is the loop function tool.
Left Indicator This is the left indicator icon, used for positioning the left indicator in the ruler, and usually associated as one of a pair with the right indicator. Both indicators form a section within your project, that can define adding new parts, performing functions within a specified section, and importantly, are your indicators for punch in/out recording. When the left or right indicators are engaged, a vertical line appears on your canvas, and when the indicators are off, no line appears in the canvas, the punch in and out state is off. A simple recognition state for users.
Right Indicator This is the natural partner of the Left Indicator.
**Home** (Shortcut **Home** ) This function is to return the playback cursor to the start of your project.
**Return** (Shortcut toggle **U** ) This function is the Return feature in OOM. When engaged, it sets a temporary point in the timeline where the playback cursor is, and each time you press stop it returns to this point. Click on the icon again, or press **U**) to turn this off.
**Reverse** (Shortcut **CTRL + Left Arrow**) This function moves the playback cursor back in the timeline, by grid, according the the snap value you have set.
**Forwards** (Shortcut **CTRL + Right Arrow**) This function moves the playback cursor forward in the timeline, by grid, according the the snap value you have set.
**Stop** (Shortcut **SPACE** as a toggle with the **play** function) This function stops playback.
**Play** (Shortcut **SPACE** as a toggle with the **stop** function) This function starts playback.
**Metronome** (Shortcut **C** ) This is the metronome function.
**Record** (Shortcut toggle **R** on/off ) This function arms and dis-arms the global record state, and arms a selected track as well, if the track is not armed already.
**Panic** (Shortcut **P** ) This function is Midi Panic, and it sends an all notes off message globally, immediately stopping any midi events playing at the time. Highly useful for cutting off hanging midi notes, if the sampler or synth fails to responds to normal note off events, or the event was lost, for some reason.
The spinbox value shows the current pointer position in the timeline, and next to that is the grid dropdown button in which the user can set the grid size for the main window, and regulate the increments at which the PB cursor can move across the main canvas, left and right.
This icon is to activate feedback from a control surface.
The middle icon in this toolbar is the Program Change loader (PC) and is designed to allow you to load all the program changes for your project, before you hit playback. Simply press it when you first open an existing project, and OOM will scan the project, loading program change data already written into parts.
This is the mixer dock icon, that enables you to open and close the Mixer Dock.
