3026453 - Cholesterol in IDL [Mass/volume] in Serum or Plasma

IDL (Intermediate-density lipoprotein) is a triglyceride rich, apo B-containing, lipoprotein intermediate in density and size between LDL and VLDL. Moderately increased levels of IDL cholesterol are closely associated with a high frequency of coronary artery disease. 1

8840

In the OMOP vocabulary 8840 is a Standard Concept that represents the unit milligram per deciliter (mg/dL)

Plausible Low Value

Plausible High Value

50.00

Rationale

Since the IDL is derived from LDL and the lowest biologically possible is currently not known 2, 3, we use a data-driven approach to empirically establish a plausible low value of 1. A biologically plausible high value is also difficult to establish, so an empirically established value of 50 was chosen.
